Five months into a trial training Air Force pilots on Air New Zealand planes, the Air Force says it is happy with the results.
Two RNZAF pilots are spending 18 months with Air Nelson, an Air NZ subsidiary, flying under the command of a more senior Air NZ pilot.
Spokesperson Squadron Leader Kavae Tamariki says the pilots are already trained flyers but need extra experience in computerised cockpits.
He says the alternative is to send them for expensive training in flight simulators overseas.
Squadron Leader Tamariki says the Air Force is looking at smarter ways of getting officers trained and it is working well for both organisations. The RNZAF will be getting new flight simulators, he says.
