Three arrested after Hamilton home invasion

Armed police have arrested three people in raids in Hamilton, after a holdup at a house early on Thursday.

A group of people armed with knives is understood to have burst into a Durham St house at about 4am and demanded cash and property.

Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Greene says the robbery is believed to be both gang- and drug-related.

He says a distinct link has been identified between gangs and the illegal drugs and firearms trades over recent months.

Two men and a woman face the Hamilton District Court on Friday, charged with aggravated robbery.

The Hamilton police are also the robbery of a United Video store in Frankton. Two men armed with a rifle entered the store just before 10.30pm on Wednesday; an employee was threatened by one while the other grabbed the till.

Both fled on foot towards Seddon Street. The police say the rifle appeared to have a telescopic sight so it would have been a distinctive item for someone to be seen carrying.
