Crush cars of repeat drink-drivers, urges mayor

Updated at 1:20pm on 31 July 2009

Lawmakers should look at the idea of crushing the cars of repeat drink-drivers, says Lower Hutt Mayor David Ogden.

Mr Ogden told a parliamentary select committee on Thursday that he supported the initiative to crush boy-racers' cars.

He says crushing the cars of repeat drink-drivers is a logical comparison, although a law change should not be made without proper consideration.

Mr Ogden says alcohol is behind a lot of the road accidents and anything to reduce that is worth looking at.
