NZ researcher helps investigate pine needle disease

A New Zealand scientist is helping to find the cure to a common pine needle disease. The disease affects a tree's growth and can cause it to die.

Massey University's Rosie Bradshaw is part of a team from America and Europe that has gained funding to analyse the fungus, which causes red band pine needle disease.

Dr Bradshaw says the group will extract complete genetic instructions from the fungi's DNA, which will help them to improve disease management and find a cure in a few years' time.

The material will go to the United States for analysis.
