Mistrust of power companies over rebates

8:55 pm on 10 August 2009

Grey Power says power companies would find a way around any Government plan to make them provide rebates for customers who use less energy.

A review of the electricity sector presented to Cabinet on Monday was expected to suggest the Government compels electricity companies to give consumers a rebate of $10 or more every week during energy-saving campaigns.

Grey Power says power companies would only add the extra cost to prices at other times of the year, and what the industry really needs is more regulation to drive down costs.
