At least four car bombs have exploded in Iraq, killing about 40 people and wounding more than 200.
Two truck bombs exploded in a Shi'ite village near the northern city of Mosul, killing at least 23 people and injuring more than 100. Some 30 homes were destroyed in the village of Khaznah, 20 kilometres east of Mosul, when the trucks exploded nearly simultaneously, less than 450 metres apart.
Meanwhile, two car bombs went off near construction sites in Baghdad as labourers were gathering in the early morning looking for work. Those attacks are believed to have claimed the lives of at least 16 people and wounded nearly 80 others.
More than 40 people were killed in a series of attacks on Shi'ites on Friday.
