Teen launches cycle safety campaign

A teenager who was almost killed in a cycling crash in Christchurch has launched a campaign to try to make the city's roads safer for cyclists.

There have been two cycling deaths in Christchurch in less than a month.

Grace Nichols, 16, was in a coma for four days last August following her accident.

Both her lungs were punctured and more than 20 bones were broken in the accident, in which she clipped another bike, fell onto the road and was run over by a car.

Miss Nichols and her sister have created bumper stickers reminding drivers to be careful around cyclists.

The gold coin donation for the stickers will go to Christchurch Hospital intensive care unit and St John Ambulance.
