More jobs being advertised in Australia

4:29 pm on 7 September 2009

The Australian job market appears to be improving, with new figures showing an increase in the number of advertised jobs.

The Olivier Job Index shows that advertised positions rose almost 2.5% in August, the biggest jump since May last year.

While some firms are still shedding staff and reducing hours, others are now hiring again.

The resources sector is leading the way, with job ads rising in Western Australia and Queensland, offsetting falls in New South Wales.
