Vanuatu to offer free primary school education

9:19 pm on 7 September 2009

The Vanuatu government has officially launched its policy to offer free primary education from next year.

Education Minister Charlot Salwai says the government has found that many children have been denied access because their parents cannot afford the school fees, Radio New Zealand International reports.

Under the new policy, the government will allocate $US60 per child from the first term of 2010.

The policy is being implemented following financial assistance from the New Zealand and Australian governments.
