A construction company building an ocean sewage outfall pipe at Christchurch is facing further penalty for a breach of maritime safety regulations in an incident in January.
It is the second time McConnell Dowell has admitted breaching maritime safety regulations while working on the outfall.
In another incident last October, a barge owned by McConnell Dowell broke free of a tug in a storm and began to drift towards rocks.
Another contractor involved in building the outfall, Heron Construction, was also prosecuted over a separate incident on the same day in which two employees drowned.
In the Christchurch District Court on Thursday, McConnell Dowell admitted it failed to take all steps to ensure the safety of its employees after it allowed employees to ride on a Flexifloat barge in January.
The company will be sentenced in November and faces a fine of up to $350,000.
