Court rejects Suu Kyi appeal over detention

A court in Myanmar has rejected an appeal by pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi against her extended detention.

In August, Ms Suu Kyi was found guilty of breaking a law protecting the state from "subversive elements" when she allowed an American intruder to stay at her home while under house arrest.

She was sentenced to 18 months' further house arrest, which will keep her out of elections scheduled for next year, the BBC reports.

Ms Suu Kyi has spent 14 of the past 20 years in detention.

Her lawyer, Nyan Win, says they will take the appeal to the Supreme Court.
