Dylan challenges fans - again

American singer Bob Dylan has once more thrown down a challenge to the expectations of his fans by releasing a Christmas album.

The tracks range from much-loved carols to Mel Torme's The Christmas Song.

The BBC reports the production is influenced by the sumptuously orchestrated work of lounge singers in the 1950's and describes the CD as 'awash with sentimentality'.

Reviews in North America have been mixed.

The recording has already begun to stir a torrent of reaction among those fans who call themselves the 'Bobcats'.
