Search for missing student may be scaled back

The search for missing Auckland student Srikanth Rayadurgam may be scaled back at the end of the week.

Shoreline and harbour searches have failed to find 23-year-old Mr Rayadurgam, who was last seen leaving his Mt Albert home on 1 October.

Phone records show his mobile phone was used on Karangahape Rd the night he disappeared. He was also seen at a National Bank ATM in the same street at about 2pm that day.

Mr Rayadurgam's wallet and some clothes were found near Westhaven Marina the following morning.

Detective Sergeant Joe Aumua says the investigation is constantly being reviewed.

"At the end of this week we'll have another look at the investigation and see where we go from there," he says.

"There might be a requirement for us to maybe look at scaling down the operation."

Mr Aumua says officers are still speaking to businesses and some of Mr Rayadurgam's associates, and going through surveillance footage. Information from a police 0800 number is also being worked through.
