7:21 pm on 25 October 2009

Police are calling for witnesses to a crash near Huntly that saw a child and a man taken to hospital with life threatening injuries.

Police say the 3-year-old boy and the man in his fifties were critically injured when a car and the man's motorcycle collided just before 3pm on Sunday on State Highway One south of the town.

Waikato Hospital says the motorcyclist is in a serious condition and the three-year-old is in intensive care and due to transfer to Starship Hospital in Auckland.

A stretch of highway that was closed is now cleared and open to traffic.
