Three teenagers have been sentenced to prison terms of between three and six years for bashing a young New Zealand man to death in Sydney in 2007.
In sentencing the teenagers, who were 16 at the time, for manslaughter the Supreme Court judge referred to senseless violence committed on a stranger in a public place.
The ABC reports the judge called it a "cowardly attack on an innocent man".
Christopher Leicester, 20, was punched and kicked as he walked across an oval at Woolooware in Sydney's south.
They thought he was someone else who had yelled abuse at them from a car.
The ABC says as one of the teenagers was sentenced to at least six years jail, a relative shouted angrily at the judge.
The other two who had pleaded guilty, were given terms of at least three and five years.
Mr Leicester's father, Gerard Leicester, told the ABC the sentences should have been longer.
But he praised the judge for his stand against senseless aggression.
"He's made a stand that youngsters out of control, alcohol-fuelled, is not going to be tolerated."
