Police from Melbourne's homicide squad have confirmed the identity of an elderly woman whose remains were found in a barrel earlier this week.
Lucia Amenta, 71, disappeared in January last year. Police have identified her using dental records.
The barrel containing her body was found in a creek being cleaned by council contract workers.
No arrests have yet been made.
