Two Opotiki teenagers have been jailed for the rape and sexual violation of a Japanese tourist in September.

In Whakatane District Court on Friday, Judge Peter Rollo sentenced Mark Hati, 16, and Ranginui Rahi, 18, to nine years' imprisonment, with four-year terms for aggravated robbery during the same incident to be served concurrently.

Parole was not discussed at the sentencing.

The officer in charge of Whakatane CIB, Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Standen, says police will tell the victim of the outcome once she can be contacted.
