Long queues at Northern Gateway toll road predicted

Updated at 5:45am on 26 November 2009

The Automobile Association (AA) is predicting delays at Auckland's Northern Gateway toll road over the busy summer period unless more cash payment kiosks are installed.

Not only are there too few kiosks, AA spokesperson Simon Lambourne says, they're in the wrong places and they hinder as as much as help motorists on the toll road.

He says the failure to install more kiosks will result in long queues over the holiday period, defeating the purpose of the seven-kilometre road, which runs between Orewa and Puhoi.

The Transport Agency says one extra kiosk will be added. It says since the toll road system is fully electronic, people are encouraged to open an account and pay before or after their trip.
