Manslaughter charge to follow Queenstown death

Police are to charge a 34-year-old man with manslaughter following a homicide investigation in Queenstown.

Mark Smith, 47, died on last Thursday following an altercation in the resort town.

A man, who has interim name supression, was charged with assault at the time.

Detective Senior Sergeant Colin Blackiethe man will appear in the Invercargill District Court on Friday to face a manslaughter charge.

He says investigators were able to make rapid progress thanks to help from members of the public.
