The disciplinary tribunal charged with deciding the fate of a Christchurch doctor accused of having sex with a 16-year-old patient has retired to deliberate its verdict.
The doctor is also accused of giving her Class A drugs.
The woman, who's now a journalist in her 40s, says the relationship took place in 1985. But the doctor says they only kissed on one occasion and claims she was never one of his patients.
On Wednesday the prosecution sought to amend its submissions to state that either the girl was a patient of the doctor or her mother was.
It also tried to change the drugs aspect of the charge, conceding that the two points could not be proven.
The tribunal declined, however, to accept the eleventh-hour amendments.
The five-member Health Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal hopes to deliver its verdict by the end of the year.
