Updated at 4:21pm on 28 November 2009

A caregiver has been attacked in a Dunedin resthome.

Police say a man entered the Leith Rest Home on George Street shortly before 6am on Friday and grabbed the caregiver from behind.

The 49-year-old managed to free herself and her attacker fled the scene.

A police dog team found a man hiding inside a shed in the property next door.

A Blenheim man, 35, appeared in the Dunedin District Court charged with aggravated assault and burglary.

He was remanded in custody without plea until 4 December.
