Mayor says reviewers happy with Far North council

Far North mayor Wayne Brown says the ministerial review team sent to investigate his council has gone away happy.

Environment Minister Nick Smith ordered the investigation after a survey revealed lengthy delays in issuing building consents.

Mr Brown says the survey covered the period before he became mayor, and the reviewers found that the problem has been fixed.

He says they told him they would give his council seven out of 10 for its resource consent processes, compared with four out of 10 for the Whangarei District Council.

A spokesman for the minister says the report on the Far North council will be released mid-January.
