A woman has pleaded guilty to careless driving causing injury after she drove into a pack of about 20 cyclists in an Auckland suburb.

Jennifer Speakman injured four people after colliding with the pack cycling along Tamaki Drive in the suburb of St Heliers in September this year.

The most seriously injured person has been in a rehabilitation centre with severe head injuries.

Speakman, 20, pleaded guilty to all four charges brought against her at Auckland District Court on Monday.

Lawyer Frank Hogan told the court that she wished to convey her profound sorrow and deepest apology to the cyclists.

Judge Thomas Everitt told Speakman her apology had been noted. She is due to be sentenced in February next year.

Barbara Cuthbert, from the advocacy group Cycle Action Auckland, attended the hearing and says she is determined to stop cyclists being injured by motorists.

A meeting with the Auckland City Council to discuss improving cycle safety along Tamaki Drive has been organised for Wednesday, she says.
