A Palmerston North rest home, closed down after an elderly resident was tied to a bed, has been heavily criticised in an audit report.
Mid Central Health closed Rose A Lea Rest Home in November after a complaint was made about 103-year-old Myra Letts being tied to her bed with a sheet.
The owners of the rest home have denied any abusive behaviour, and say Mrs Letts was tied to her bed to stop her leg contracting and causing her pain and distress.
However, the audit report says there is evidence of a pattern of abusive behaviour by one of the owners towards staff, residents and visitors.
