A man charged with the attempted murder of Constable Jeremy Snow has made his first court appearance.
The accused, 28, who has name suppression, had a special bedside hearing at Middlemore Hospital in Auckland on Wednesday morning.
He was injured when he was apprehended by police dogs after Mr Snow, 28, was shot three times in Buckingham Crescent in Papatoetoe just after 4am on Tuesday.
He will appear in the Manukau District Court in the new year.
Police say Mr Snow - who is also in Middlemore Hospital - is recovering well.
Police are looking for another man in relation to the shooting: Darren Thomas Court, 43, is wanted on other matters and police say he should not be approached.
Detective Inspector Mark Gutry told Checkpoint the wanted man is known to police and was at the address at the time of the shooting.

Jeremy Snow's father, David Snow, told a media conference on Wednesday afternoon his son was in good spirits but still in a lot of pain.
He said he enjoyed being a police officer and had wanted to be one from an early age.
Police Minister Judith Collins also visited the injured officer on Wednesday.
"The first thing he said to me was "I'm not quitting."
She described him as a "tough little guy ... nuggety", who is extremely determined and told her wasn't letting anyone get him out of the police force.
