Women's Refuge says many of its safe houses were full to capacity in the run-up to Christmas.
The period is usually relatively quiet as women try to stay in their own homes and give their children a family Christmas.
But a spokesperson says the past fortnight has been extremely busy.
She says Refuge workers expect to be extra-busy after Christmas when other women and children seek safety.
