Hospitality Assn against call for alcohol marketing changes

10:33 am on 4 January 2010

The Hospitality Association says a call for the Government to regulate alcohol marketing is not the answer to problem drinking.

The National Addiction Centre says a fundamental way to reduce the incidence of binge drinking by young people, is to reduce alcohol advertising.

It also says there has been a rise in the number of women with alcohol dependence.

But the Hospitality Association says it is simplistic to say that advertising has led to more young women drinking more.

Chief executive Bruce Robertson says change will come when people take responsibility for their own consumption.
