No FSA prosecution after pet food investigation

The Food Safety Authority says it will not prosecute a company that was accused of selling horse meat for human consumption.

The agency investigated in September after accusations that Gillard Meat Processors was selling pet food made from horse meat at weekend markets in South Auckland. It is an offence to pass off pet food as being suitable for people to eat.

The FSA says it has decided not to take the company to court.
