6:01 am on 25 January 2010

A magnitude 5.6 earthquake has struck near Solomon Islands, but there are no immediate tsunami warning or reports of damage.

The US Geological Survey says it occurred 160km southeast of the town of Gizo at 1.19am on Monday, at a depth of about 10km.

There was a series of quakes in the western Solomon Islands earlier this month, with the largest of 7.2 causing a tsunami estimated at nearly 2.5 metres.
