NZ referees selected for football world cup

Two New Zealand referees have been selected by football's governing body FIFA to take part in the World Cup in South Africa in June.

Peter O'Leary, a teacher at Hillcrest High in Hamilton, and Mike Hester of Auckland will be in the pool of 30 referees.

They will undergo further testing and training before the group is allocated to 24 match referee and six reserve official roles.

New Zealand linesman Brent Best and Jan Hintz are also heading to the finals.
