5:43 pm on 10 February 2010

A passenger train has collided with a milk tanker truck south of Taumarunui in the King Country.

The crash happened about at the Mananui level crossing about 3.20pm on Wednesday.

The Overlander train was carrying 86 passengers but no-one was injured.

Kiwirail spokesperson Kevin Ramshaw says the level crossing is protected by flashing lights and bells which were working at the time of the collision.

The train was able to be moved to Taumarunui where the Auckland-bound passengers were transferred to another train, he says.
