Cabinet reshuffle by new head of state

Vice-president Goodluck Jonathan of Nigeria has reshuffled the Cabinet on his first day as acting head of state in place of President Umaru Yar'Adua, who's receiving medical treatment overseas.

Mr Jonathan replaced Attorney General Michael Aondoakaa, who had opposed the transfer of executive power.

The BBC reports Mr Aondoakaa will remain in the cabinet in another role.

Mr Aondoakaa is seen as an ally of Mr Yar'Adua.

President Umaru Yar'Adua has been in hospital abroad since November. His absence triggered a political crisis.

Mr Jonathan was installed as acting leader on Tuesday after a vote in the National Assembly.

In a televised address afterwards, Mr Jonathan asked the country to pray for Mr Yar'Adua's recovery.
