Telecom is investigating an allegation that one of its workers sent an abusive text message to a customer.
The matter has been raised by Wanganui mayor Michael Laws on behalf of a constituent.
Mr Laws says the woman received a text message containing the f-word after complaining that her text messages to family members were taking hours to reach them.
Telecom says this sort of behaviour would amount to serious misconduct and if the message was sent by an employee that person would be fired immediately.
