Inquest closed to public for police officers' evidence

3:18 pm on 1 March 2010

Two police officers at an inquest into the death of a teenager killed during a high speed pursuit in Auckland will give their evidence behind closed doors.

Halatau Naitoko, 17, was mistakenly shot dead by police during the pursuit in January last year.

Armed Offenders Squad officers were due to give testimony when the inquest began in November.

However, their evidence was delayed while they appealed against a ruling on how they gave that evidence.

The inquest resumed on Monday morning in Auckland.

The coroner has ordered that the officers, referred to as Constables A81 and A84, give evidence with only court staff, legal counsel, two police officers and Mr Naitoko's family present.
