French Catholics can confess sins over the phone

3:04 pm on 2 March 2010

A telephone line has been set up in France for Catholics to confess their sins - for 34 euros a minute.

The Line of the Lord service offers callers prayers, music, the chance to listen to other people's confessions and to record their own.

However, it does not offer absolution, with a message telling callers that serious or mortal sins must be confided to a priest, AFP reports.

The Conference of French Bishops says the phone line does not have Church approval.
