Police in Nelson say Saturday's motorbike rally, threatened with violence by a group calling themselves the Southern Skinheads, has passed off without incident.

The Skinheads had threatened to burn down any motel or pub the 130 rally bikers called into and to try to shoot them off their machines.

The group was reportedly angry that the bikers, which included 70 patched Hells Angels and Red Devils, might try to bring methamphetamine with them.

But police officers who tailed the rally, say there was no sign of the Skinheads.

They say the bikers were generally well behaved.
