Issues raised by Waihopai case await appeal

6:01 pm on 22 March 2010

The Government says it's too early to look at whether a law change is needed following the acquittal of three men charged over an attack on the Waihopai spy base.

The trio admitted deflating a 30-metre-high dome shielding a satellite dish two years ago, but argued that their actions were justified by the greater good of saving lives in Iraq.

It's now up to the Solicitor-General to determine whether the Crown will appeal against the jury's verdict.

Prime Minister John Key says that, depending on the outcome of that decision, Justice Minister Simon Power might want to review the current law.

A spokesperson for the minister says no work is being done while the case is open to appeal.
