The first step has been taken to get some co-ordination among internet and software suppliers who are looking to provide services to farmers as high speed broad-band is rolled out into the rural sector.
Up to 50 representatives turned up on Wednesday to a seminar organised by Federated Farmers, to explore what will be available as farms are hooked up to broadband over the next six years in the Government's $300 million programme.
The federation's chief executive, Conor English, says while participants are competing to sell their services to farmers, they also see the potential for some collaboration.
He says there need to be standards on measurement tools and transferring data from one application to another.
Mr English says a working group will look at the issues they've identified and they'll be meeting again.
