Most super-city jobs appear safe

Most of the 6500 jobs at Auckland's eight local bodies appear safe for now as the super-city council merger takes shape.

However, it is not yet clear how many council staff will have their jobs moved to other parts of the region.

The Auckland Transition Agency's latest assessment pinpoints duplication of jobs in Communications and in Democracy Services, which will support 20 councillors rather than the current 109.

Still unknown are the demands of 149 local board members whose roles are being considered by Parliament.

Most operational jobs will stay where they are, but centralisation will mean some relocations, especially for staff in policy and planning roles.
