Union wants no more exemptions for Easter hours

6:00 am on 6 April 2010

The National Distribution Union wants no further liberalisation of shop trading hours at Easter.

Union head Robert Reid says the law needs to be cleared up because some places are discriminated against.

He says towns such as Queenstown and Taupo should not be exempt from Easter trading restrictions just because they are tourist towns.

Mr Reid says it's nonsense that some retailers can open at Easter while others can't. Instead, all towns should be treated equally instead of liberalising the law further.
