Dunedin's Regent Theatre faces closure if its operators cannot come up with $2 million in two months to pay for a redevelopment which includes urgent safety upgrades.
The Dunedin City Council owns the theatre and has agreed to pay $4.7 million of the $6.7 million cost of the project.
However, that is contingent on the Otago Theatre Trust coming up with the remaining amount.
Trust chairman Mike Shield says about $360,000 has been raised so far and hopes the council will be flexible about a fundraising timeline when it considers the issue at the end of June.
