Prison sentence for killer of nun

A court in Brazil has convicted a second rancher for the murder in 2005 of an American nun who was an environmental activist.

Prosecutors say Regivaldo Galvao and his accomplice paid a gunman to kill Sister Dorothy Stang, 73.

Galvao was sentenced to 30 years in prison. His accomplice was also sentenced to 30 years in prison earlier this month.

Prosecutors said Sister Stang was murdered because she blocked the ranchers from seizing land the government had given to Amazonian farmers.

She was shot dead on a track in a rainforest in Para, a northern frontier state.
