A mountain-biker with suspected spinal injuries has been airlifted by helicopter to Wellington Hospital after an accident in Upper Hutt, north of Wellington.
The helicopter was called to the scene on a track above Maidstone Park at about 1.30pm on Sunday.
A helicopter crewman, Dave Greenberg, says the 56-year-old biker did not see an upcoming jump and was thrown over his handlebars, landing on his head.
Mr Greenberg says the man's condition is serious but stable.
