A pharmacist in Otara is taking GlaxoSmithKline to court over a recall of the blood-thinning drug Marevan in January.
Ian Johnson, who is also the president of the Pharmacy Guild, says pharmacists had to bear the cost of the mistake by the drug company.
Mr Johnson invoiced GlaxoSmithKline for $395.10 for work including contacting and consulting patients, dispensing replacement medication, and administration costs.
The company refused to pay and Mr Johnson has served it with a notice of claim to which it must respond within 30 days.
He says it is a test case that has the support of pharmacists nationwide.
