The number of submissions on the Government's mining proposals is set to pass 35,000.
Public consultation on a plan to remove Schedule Four protection from 7000 hectares of conservation land closes on Wednesday.
The consultation period on the mining proposals was earlier extended, but submissions are still being received.
The Ministry of Economic Development says it had received 29,500 by last Friday.
A further 5000 submissions are being handed in on Tuesday by anti-mining campaign groups.
The Royal Forest and Bird Protection Society of New Zealand says the number of submissions is incredible and represents a significant rejection of the Government's plans.
The ministry says about 85% of the submissions are of the form-generated type.
