35 jobs to be cut at Health Ministry

The Ministry of Health has confirmed that 35 staff will lose their jobs as a result of its restructuring.

The ministry began consulting with staff in March about the changes and released the final shape of its structure on Wednesday. The structure will be in place by July.

The ministry says the new structure will disestablish a number of positions, create new ones and change some existing roles to better reflect current health priorities.

The aim is to implement changes already announced, including the establishment of the new National Health Board within the ministry.

The ministry says there will be an overall reduction of 35 positions, although the exact impact on staff will not be known until all new and vacant positions have been filled.

The ministry intends to reduce staff from the current level of about 1420 fulltime equivalents to 1390 by July, and 1290 by July next year.
