Liquor sale sting nets two Wellington stores

8:26 pm on 29 May 2010

Two grocery stores in Wellington sold alcohol to minors during a sting targetting liquor outlets, police say.

It was carried out last week in conjunction with the District Licensing Agency and the Regional Public Health Authority.

Police say a 16-year-old volunteer who visited 12 off-licence stores in and around the city was sold alcohol at two grocery shops.

They say the teenager didn't have photo identification with him, so the sales should never have gone ahead.

The two businesses will now appear before the Liquor Licensing Authority.
