Coroner seeks more evidence into police killing

10:36 am on 1 June 2010

The Coroner who held an inquest into the death of a teenager mistakenly killed by the police on the north-western motorway in Auckland, is seeking more evidence.

Halatau Naitoko, 17, was accidentally shot dead by officers who were trying to apprehend Stephen McDonald in January last year.

An inquest heard by Coroner Gordon Matenga ended in March this year.

He reserved his findings at the time.

A spokesperson says the Coroner is seeking further expert evidence before the findings are issued.

The office was not able to say who the evidence was being sought from.

It is understood the extra information will be given in written form.
