Prostitute and bank settle over stolen money

A prostitute given millions of dollars by fraudster Stephen Versalko has reached a settlement with the ASB Bank over money it was trying to recover from her.

Versalko was sentenced to six years in prison in March for stealing almost $18 million from ASB. He admitted spending much of it on property and prostitutes.

The woman, who has name suppression, was one of two prostitutes given a total of $3.4 million by Versalko.

ASB has been taking civil action against her in the High Court at Auckland to try to retrieve some of the money, most of which is tied up in a $1 million property.

But the High Court says the two sides have now reached a confidential settlement and have one week to finalise the details.

ASB's lawyers will not comment on the amount agreed by the parties.

Versalko was last month ordered to repay $14 million.
