6:14 am on 11 July 2010

United Nations secretary-general Ban Ki-Moon has asked Sri Lanka to take urgent measures to normalise conditions around the UN office in the capital, Colombo, where protests continue against the organisation.

Hundreds of people have been demonstrating against a UN panel investigating suspected war crimes.

Mr Ban says action is needed to ensure the continuation of the UN's vital work in the country.
